silicone-straw-1Our weekly blogs regularly feature promotional merchandise that offers environmentally-friendly solutions to fulfil your marketing requirements in a responsible and caring manner.

This week we have two new ranges to tell you about, both of which have strong eco-friendly credentials and offer a genuine alternative to more mainstream products.

We are all well aware of the problems of waste plastic and the build-up of these materials in the environment.  One particular problem relates to the widespread use of single-use plastic straws, which cannot be easily recycled and tend to end up in landfills or in our rivers and oceans.  This week the Government has set out its plan to ban the distribution and sale of plastic straws.

Promotional merchandise company Pinpoint has launched a reusable silicone straw in an attempt to offer the catering and fast-food industry an alternative to the traditional plastic straw, using a material that is far more robust than the paper-based alternative frequently considered in these situations.

Available in a wide range of Pantone-matched colours, the reusable silicone straw has two size options, 7 mm or 11.5 mm diameter, the latter being ideal for thicker liquids such as milkshakes.  Your company name can be printed using food safe ink on each straw and an optional cleaning brush is also available to facilitate cleaning and reuse.

Another novel eco-product range which caught our attention this week is available from the Umbrella Company, who offer a number of UK-made brollies all with 100% recycled PET plastic canopies.  Several sizes of umbrellas are available in this Eco range, from small collapsible “supermini” designs, suitable for fitting into computer bags or handbags, through to full size vented “golf” type designs.  Of course, umbrellas offer an unrivalled branding opportunity, with their 6 or 8 panels, and make an ideal marketing giveaway, especially given the unpredictable nature of the British climate.
